WEEK 10 WRAP-UP!

Good morning Rocky Shore Lodge week 10 blog.   We had a very nice week with some great longtime guests and a few new ones.  Fishing was solid especially if you made it on the water by 8am the walleyes were there to be had.

Leeches are in demand, but minnows and crawlers were effective as well.  Ron and Jim from P1 used crawlers almost exclusively and caught a lot of walleyes.

The original Rich Award winner was hands down Brian from C-1.  He had quite the adventurous week with his boat, and I won’t mention everything that they had to endure in their 2 trips up this year.  Rumor has it he’s already built a new boat online and Collette agreed with the make and model.  After having a blown alternator replaced the crew went to Sub Island to fish the hazard buoy drop offs.  It sounds like things were headed in the right direction as they were catching walleyes right up to the point where he realized the rock that was stationary had crept up on the SS Minnow.  Chris was willing to get in the water to lighten the load but alas it turned out not necessary as the four kept going from one side of the boat to the other and freed themselves.  From what I understand no damage was done to the boat.  If you read this on Facebook, please feel free to name Brian’s Island.  I’m looking for a catchy/witty name as I believe he deserves to name a spot on the lake.

Walleye bite was better with the slip bobber.  Jett from P2 caught a Personal Best (PB) 29-Inch Walleye.

It was so fat and healthy looking I asked a bunch of times if they really measured it accurately.  You decide when you see the photo below.  I had a couple of the guests this week from P2 crew make mention how incredibly chunky and healthy the walleyes are this year.  The fish Jett caught had to be over 10 pounds not that we weigh fish up here.  The fishery is definitely in great shape. Rick and Gary from C-3 had a couple really fast and furious periods this week on Hump 2 where it drops just to name one of the spots that has been good.  I was able to sneak out Wednesday morning with Dave from C-5 and really enjoyed some time chasing walleyes.  Thanks Dave!  Dave and Cathy C-2 brought up grandsons Wyatt, and Reno and Reno boated a 29-Inch Walleye!  His first trip to Canada and to boat a fish like that!  So many nice fish being caught and released!  I could name a bunch of spots but I’ll tell you when you arrive.

Alan from C-6 came up with a new guy Jerry and they boated 8 muskies this week and quite a few follows.  Alan had a PB up to the boat before it was able to spit the hook right before they netted the fish.  Always amazes me that a fish with that many sharp treble hooks can throw a lure so easy.

Perch and bass were caught with ease, when targeted, and sometimes when not targeted.

Week 10 Monster Fish Tournament results:

Jett caught a 6-Inch Smallmouth to eek out a 6.25-Inch and 6.5-Inch Smallmouth respectively to capture the Micro prize.

Reno from C-2 landed his PB 29-Inch Walleye on the right day to grab the walleye prize.  That’s 2 weeks in a row where the walleye prize was awarded for a fish over 29 inches!  I laugh when people say July and August are slow months fishing for walleye.  Maybe in the states, but not up here.

Brian’s Rock Brian landed a 27-Inch Northern Pike to capture the Northern/Musky prize.

Congratulations everyone!

Some very nice fish caught this week and the weather was very agreeable to those who like the sun.  Not hot but warm.

Summer is flying by as we start to prep for bear baiting and moose season is not all that far off either.  From all of us up here we hope your travels are safe and your vacations and family time is relaxing and rewarding!

Don’t forget to send pictures!

Tight Lines everyone!
